Entering Flour Bakeshop is like entering the kitchen of a friend who loves to bake delicious things – and share them. The cozy space features grass-green walls and white wainscoting, two tables with upholstered booth seats and fresh flowers, and the gleaming glass case displaying the shop’s delectable array of desserts, muffins, scones, and croissants. Owner Christine Morse, formerly a baker and pastry chef at Cupcakes, the Wedgewood Hotel, and Meinhardt’s bakes everything fresh each morning.

What’s for Dessert?
Located on a quieter side street, steps from busy Marine Drive and Ambleside Beach, Flour Bakeshop is a perfect place for a coffee break. Parents dropping off their children at nearby dancing and gymnastics classes often come in for locally roasted, organic fair trade coffee and Silk Road tea, and to pick up a selection of Flour’s specialty single-serving desserts at the same time. Along with creations inspired by seasonal fruits and berries, sweet treats on offer include the signature Pear & Almond Tart, Sticky Toffee Pudding, and White Chocolate & Strawberry Shortcake. Flour Bakeshop also creates custom cakes for special occasions, in your choice of flavours including White Forest (vanilla layers with buttercream frosting and white chocolate ganache), Coconut Meringue, and Almond Mocha.

Pick Up a Picnic
For lunch, Flour Bakeshop offers a selection of sandwiches. Breaking away from the sea of paninis and in keeping with the French-inspired décor, they serve them on freshly baked baguettes. Choices include roast beef and sharp cheddar, ham and brie, pesto chicken and havarti, and egg salad. For a perfect picnic, just add a bottle of Happy Planet juice or Boylan Soda, and of course, dessert, and serve with a side of sea air.
