Five Corners Bistro brings a European flavour to White Rock. The cozy restaurant has a welcoming vibe and is at its best when it’s bustling. The tables — with seats for 50 in total — are close together, giving it a really social feel. The large, open bar is the centre of the action and serves as a great hangout if you’re in the mood to keep it simple with drinks and appies. Candlelight and subdued burgundy and mustard tones create a relaxed atmosphere and diners are encouraged to linger over a fine meal.
West Coast Wonders
Warm up your palate with a wide selection of appetizers including intricate cheese-focused small plates, such as Brie and crab mushroom caps and Brie and garlic philo bundles with raspberry couli. Other “amuse bouches” include crab cakes and escargot. Entrées include lamb, pan-seared duck, wild salmon and stuffed chicken. There are also pasta dishes such as veggie or seafood linguini, the latter comes packed with prawns, scallops and snapper. Finally, the chef’s specialty is always a good choice: snapper baked in tomato sauce and topped with feta cheese and olives. Save some room for desserts, because you’ll find all kinds of homemade treats (pie and cheesecake) to end your meal on a sweet note.
Music for your Ears and Palette
The décor at Five Corner’s Bistro is all based on a musical theme. The reason? The family that owns the restaurant includes Lance Ryan, the internationally acclaimed operatic tenor. Ryan is the only member of his immediate family who’s not around to participate in the daily activities of the business so the dining room serves as a sort of tribute to him. Numerous posters from shows in which Ryan performed are hung on the wall and an antique music stand displays the menu at the door. Classical and jazz tunes fill the air and complete the experience.
