A refurbished turn-of-the-century fire station, the Firehall is a charming 150-seat multi-discipline performance venue that still retains some of the classic brick and red wood elements of its firehall heritage. Its location near Chinatown and the police station gives the theatre a voice-of-the-streets feel. Modern touches include a cozy, fully licensed lounge and enclosed courtyard with outdoor stage. Committed to making quality performing arts available to everyone, the Firehall maintains affordable ticket prices and reaches out to local ethnic groups.
The Shows
Running year-round, programs include an eclectic theatre series of five plays, and a dance series featuring the popular Dancing on the Edge Festival. Known for its support of Canadian artists of diverse ethnic origins, the Centre plays host to top local dance and theatrical companies, including Danstabat, Mascall Dance and Kokoro Dance. Though small and intimate, the theatre is equipped with modern lighting and sound gear--the Firehall is well able to stage everything from elaborate musicals to mini-operas.
