Unique Atmosphere in Chinatown
Since the 1980s, Fan Tan Cafe has been delighting locals and tourists alike. The stylish restaurant stands out from the other Chinese eateries in the area thanks to its sleek, modern décor. The bright colours of the bold art pieces play off the vivid neon signs that light up Chinatown, while candle-lit tables and soft jazz music give the space a sophisticated feel.
Dim Sum and then Some
Fan Tan Cafe offers an array of contemporary and classic Cantonese cuisine. Start your day with delicious dim sum, which is available until 6 p.m. There are more than two-dozen items on the dim sum menu and everything is made fresh to order. The selection of Cantonese, Szechwan and Thai food is also impressive, from appetizers to desserts. Fan Tan Cafe also boasts the largest Chinese vegetarian menu in town, while the seafood menu is also hard to beat. There are great deals to be had at this restaurant, including the “make your own combo” lunch special where you choose three dishes from a menu of 21. Make sure to include a bowl of what Fan Tan calls the best war wonton soup in town!
Back-door Take-out Service
If you’re strolling through Chinatown and don’t have time for a sit-down meal, Fan Tan Cafe has a unique service for you. Just walk down the narrow alley and look for the restaurant’s “back door specials.” You can order directly from the kitchen and get a great chow mein box at a low price. With fancy choices like spicy peanut Shanghai noodles topped with shrimp, it’s not your average fast food.
