Anyone shopping or working in the Robson and Jervis neighbourhood needs to visit Ezogiku. Started over 40 years ago in Tokyo, Ezogiku now has two stores in Vancouver and seven locations in Honolulu. What exactly is their secret to success? Expertly arranged, large portions sold for budget prices. Ezogiku specializes in large bowls of ramen noodles with your choice of soup base – miso, shoyu or regular. There are many different kinds of noodle bowls – seafood, charsiu (tender pork slices) and vegetable bowls are all popular. For people who love spicy Korean fare, Kimchi is also one of Ezogiko’s features.
Not Just Noodles
Fried rice, noodle and curry dishes are all on Ezogiku’s menu too. Chicken cutlets served with Japanese curry sauce and spicy fried ramen noodles are blended with pork or veggies. One of the best deals at Ezogiku is the gyoza. For just a couple dollars more, four gyoza pockets can be added to any meal.
Small but Bustling
While Ezogiku is located centrally, it is housed in a small space. Seating accommodates around 17 people, most of it at the red lacquered bar that winds down the length of the restaurant. Critics recommend you arrive before rush times (noon and between 6 to 7 p.m.).
