Historic haunt
Located in the heart of Canada’s oldest Chinatown since 1923, Don Mee is a Victoria institution and a popular stop on the tourist circuit. This storied restaurant is done up in attractive and authentic Chinese stylings, with jade green walls, coral red and gold accents, white table linens, traditional wall art and plenty of Buddha status. The service and atmosphere will transport you to Hong Kong, and the best tradition can be observed at dim sum, when servers push around carts of up to 80 different tiny tastes, including Westerner favourites like dumplings and pork buns and exotic indulgences like tripe and chicken feet.

Traditional Chinese cuisine
Don Mee serves a variety of Cantonese, Szechwan and Western dishes with a focus on fresh, local seafood. The menu is set up to encourage the Chinese dining culture of enjoying food with friends and family, by encouraging groups to order several dishes to share. Don Mee is known for its roasted Peking duck and live local seafood, which is taken directly from the tank and shown to you for approval before it is cooked to your specifications. Other dishes not to be missed include fresh oysters, rock cod and hot iron plates that sizzle all the way to your table.

Wedding and event experts
You don’t have to be Chinese to have your wedding meal or special event at Don Mee. The restaurant has been hosting a wide range of groups for decades — from intimate gatherings of up to 50 in a private dining room, to parties of up to 260 guests that can take over the entire restaurant. The large room is perfect for celebrations, with a dance floor and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system. The private dining room can be set up in a variety of ways to accommodate meetings, presentations or banquets, and is equipped with a projector, screen and wireless microphone. Don Mee has designed a decadent wedding menu, featuring dishes like stuffed crab claws, shark’s fin soup and live lobster, and the chef is also happy to work with you to design your own feast.
