Profile
Diplomat’s New Home
Diplomat Bakery has been a Richmond landmark for over two decades. Since a wrecking ball demolished its former spot in Steveston Village, Diplomat has planted new roots round the bend, at the foot on No. 2 Road. It’s picked a good home: the up-and-coming area, where blackberry bushes used to run wild, also hosts a handful of new restaurants, n organic grocery store, condos and a yoga studio. The place may be out of the way now — but not for very long!
One of the Best Bakery in Richmond
Housed in a modern, clean-lined building with stylish condo units above, Diplomat serves decadent desserts and scrumptious pastries. Some popular cakes include the chocolate lemon cheesecake, which has the perfect blend of richness and tartness, as well as the Espresso Fudge Cake. A friend swears by the White Chocolate Baileys Cake as a mood picker-upper. Prices are very reasonable with most slices going for the price of bus fare.
Accolades Galore
Diplomat Bakery has consistently received rave reviews, garnering Best Bakery, Best Cake Shop and Best Dessert in Richmond for four years since 2004. Its takes wedding cake and birthday cake orders — sure to be the hit of the party. A must-try: its legendary Diplomat Cake, which is made of several alternating layers of puff pastry and pastry cream, sandwiched between two layers of sponge cake. It’s available by order only.
