Profile

Authentic Indian Atmosphere
Tucked away on Antique Row, Da Tandoor invites visitors to experience a little bit of Mumbai. The restaurant was established in the 1970s, and continues to be a favourite place for exotic fare. The charming eatery offers an authentic experience thanks to servers dressed in jeweled saris and salwar kameez and Indian music playing softly in the background. The room is also decorated in a traditional fashion, with Indian wall hangings, jail screens and brass and red accents.

Excellent Selection of Traditional Dishes
Your Indian dining experience begins with complimentary pappadums served with homemade chutneys. After that, the decision-making can be tough, as the menu at Da Tandoor is extensive. If you’re dining with a group, ordering an array of dishes and sharing the different flavours is the way to go. Butter chicken, lamb curry, pawn masala and the assortment of Indian snacks (samosas, pakoras, beef kababs and chicken tikka) are crowd pleasers. And if you’re dining solo, there are several special combinations that offer a tasty combination of dishes. Portions are big, so bring your appetite! The restaurant takes its name from the traditional charcoal-fired oven and breads are a big feature here, with eight different varieties.

Family Passionate About Food
Da Tandoor is a longstanding family restaurant and has been encouraging Victoria residents to try Indian for decades. Visiting the restaurant is an educational experience, as the welcoming servers are happy to discuss the different dishes and what goes into making them. All meals can be adapted for the North American palate, as you can choose your level of spice. Da Tandoor also wants to encourage eating Indian at home, and so it offers takeout, as well as an extensive range of homemade sauces and chutneys on display at the entrance.
