Cheerful Space with Thai Touches
Named for the famous river in Thailand, Chao Phraya Thai Restaurant lies just over False Creek along Cambie. After seven years of business located near Granville Island, the restaurant moved across the water in 2003, maintaining its roots as a family-run neighbourhood eatery. From the outside, an arrangement displaying sculptures of fish, elephants and Thai dancers greets customers from the restaurant’s front window. Inside, circular tables with lazy Susans are set up for group or family dining while smaller parties can be accommodated by booth seating in the main area or a number of smaller tables in the side room. The walls are decorated with golden butterflies and images of spotted koi or dragon boats, evoking the Thai landscape.

Aromatic Dishes with Plenty of Spice
Nothing embodies Thailand like its fragrant flavours of lemongrass, galanga, chilis and lime. Spicy complex flavours underlie the expansive menu of over 30 items. Start the meal with hot and sour Tom Yum soup, pandanus chicken or mango salad. Mains dishes of chicken, duck, pork or beef are dressed in spicy lime sauce or chili and basil. Adventurous palates might want to try Yum Ka Gai or boneless chicken feet with onion, chili and limejuice. Five different types of curry come with your choice of meat. Fish and seafood dishes include tiger prawns in peanut sauce and Tilapia with extra spicy sauce. Staples like coconut rice and Pad Thai noodles round out the menu. Dishes are rated mild, medium or hot and a variety of vegetarian options are also offered.

Thai Dining Inisde or Out
Aside from dinner, Chao Phraya serves lunch every day. During the week, lunch specials such as Pad Peloth with beef are served with a Thai spring roll and rice. Customers can cook Thai at home with take home curry sauces or have their lunch or dinner order delivered free within a 5 km area. For anyone planning an authentic full moon party, the restaurant caters too.
