Though the Cedar Root is a small and slender shop, it is densely packed with some of the best and authentic West Coast native peoples' artwork in the city. Be prepared for sacred masks, wall plaques, strikingly spooky carvings and enchanted talking sticks. The objects are high quality and crafted by skilled and dedicated artisans. The gallery features and array of authentic sterling silver hand-carved jewelry, as well as pieces carved in gold and adorned with precious stones.
Do it yourself
But don't think you have to spend a bundle: if you're just looking for some memorable keepsakes, you can find some reasonably priced items. Browse through black stone of varying sizes and shapes, small but eye-catching glassworks, hand-crafted clothes, decals, chokers, and even art supplies for those keen on making their own traditional-style items.
There's always more
Though mainly a West Coast artwork-oriented shop, you can also find some nice Ojibwa and Cree items, and ethnic music on CD. This native-owned shop features competitive prices and an original selection of indigenous items. For its size, the Cedar Root packs quite a bundle and is geared for those who really like to forage when they shop.
