Located in possibly the poshest postal code in the Lower Mainland, the Capilano Golf & Country Club occupies 160 acres of hills in West Vancouver's British Properties. You'll be swinging on royal grounds as the land was formerly owned by the Guinness family of England. If you're lucky enough to be a member, or be a friend of a member, you'll surely appreciate the spectacular natural setting where you can hone your golf swing or seal a business deal.
Designed For Players
But while the stunning scenery, beautifully-appointed clubhouse and impeccable, first-rate service are definite pluses, it is the golf course that remains the jewel of the club. Designed by renowned architect Stanley Thompson, the Capilano course is widely considered to be his finest work. Thompson designed the par 72, 18-hole course with the player in mind: the technically-challenging course will test the skill of an expert, but won't discourage the beginner. It takes advantage of the area's natural topography and has an artistry and elegance that sets it apart from other courses.
In the Clubhouse
The Capilano Golf & Country Club is rich in Vancouver and B.C. history, ever since future Lieutenant Governor W.C. Woodward first cracked a shot down the fairway in 1939. Today it has a strong, active membership. The clubhouse, housed in a beautifully preserved Tudor mansion, provides a central social gathering space, perfect for pre- or post-round snacks, light chit-chatting and hobnobbing. On a clear day, it has fantastic views of downtown and Mt. Baker.
