History
First established in Toronto, Ontario in 1922, the Canadian Tire Corporation was officially inaugurated in 1927 by brothers John W. and Alfred J. Billes in response to the growing number of automobiles that were hitting Canadian streets in the roaring ’20s. By 1928, Canadian Tire began mailing out its catalogue, a catalogue that is now sent out to over 9 million Canadians in both English and French.
The Birth of the Money
Throughout the ’50s, Canadian Tire started giving out Canadian Tire Money to their customers with the purchase of gas and began a phenomenon that continues to this day. Customers now receive Canadian Tire Money with every one of their purchases and can redeem the coupons for anything that the store sells.

According to a recent poll, nine out of 10 adult Canadians shop at Canadian Tire at least twice a year.
