You’ll blink and be in Italy with a visit to Caffé Amici. The colours and décor are reminiscent of cafés in Rome, with a big dark wood bar where you can place your order and shoot back an espresso, ornate wrought iron lights and burnt orange walls that act as the backdrop for photos and paintings of scenes from Italy. Grab a seat at one of the colourful chairs (blue, green or orange depending on what soccer team you’re rooting for), or relax in one of the suede chairs at the window. When it’s warm outside, there’s prime people-watching seats on the sidewalk patio.
Hangout for Soccer Fans
Groups of football fans are always gathered at Caffé Amici when the big games are on. There are only seats for about two-dozen patrons in the front room, but standing and shouting at the large flat-screen television is encouraged. When the main room gets too crowded, fans start migrating to the back room, which is much bigger and features another huge television, framed jerseys and gambling machines to make back some of your betting cash if your team loses!
Authentic Eats and Espresso
Caffé Amici is an ideal spot to stop on the Drive for an authentic Italian espresso drink. Using premier beans and a top-of-the-line Nuova Simonelli machine, the coffee is consistently superb. If you have dairy aversions, you can still enjoy a foamy cappuccino, as the café serves soy and lactose-free milk. Caffé Amici is also known for its fresh paninis that feature imported Italian meats and cheeses, homemade pesto and fresh, local veggies. All sandwiches are grilled to perfection and come with a side salad. You can also opt to indulge your sweet tooth with a homemade treat. The glass dessert case contains an irresistible collection of delicacies like tiramisu, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, pastries and biscotti.
