The dishes at Café Deux Soleils epitomize healthy eating. The exclusively vegetarian menu features choices for any time of day. Kick-start your day with a breakfast of healthy champions. You can choose from a number of always-popular egg-based plates or branch out a little and opt for a ginger teriyaki tofu scramble. The thick, generous smoothies also offer a tasty choice to get you going. For lunch, you can try a salad or a sandwich or wrap piled high with veggies. Veggie chili and veggie potpie are perfect if you’re looking for a warm meal. More salads, a slew of creative veggie burgers as well as pasta and stir-fry dishes are added on to the menu for dinner. Café Deux Soleils uses organic and locally grown ingredients whenever possible and some items are vegan.
Café Deux Soleils provides some of the most eclectic entertainment in the city. See local poets add some beats to their prose in slam poetry sessions, which are always an awe-inspiring look at what some wordsmiths can do with a rhyme. Open mic nights are another way for local up-and-coming artists to get their groove on. Local and visiting acts also get stage time to play some tunes for the lively audience.
The cheery vibe at Café Deux Soleils is evident from the moment you pass by the restaurant. The exterior of the converted warehouse is painted with a charming scene of bumblebees, tall grass and sunflowers. On the inside, you can slink into spacious booths and enjoy the colourful décor complete with cute hand-painted signs and a chalkboard menu. The walls also provide a venue for local artists to display their work. In the daytime, the eatery welcomes families and has a play area for children. At night, the lights are dimmed, candles are lit and the restaurant is transformed into one of the area’s premier hangouts. In the summer, the patio comes alive and offers a great vantage point from which to watch the action on The Drive.
