Profile Last Updated: April 01, 2008
The Burnaby Art Gallery began its tenure in the historical Ceperley House way back in 1966, adding to a rich and varied history. Originally a retirement home built in 1911; it has been a private home to a Vancouver mayor, as well as a Benedictine monastery. The Collection
Today the Arts and Crafts mansion houses a vast collection of art comprising primarily original, hand-pulled prints complemented with drawings, collages, paintings and objects. The gallery collects visual art objects of special historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance. It also acquires important contemporary art in any media by local, national and international artists. Currently there are more than 4,000 catalogued works in the permanent collection. Community connection is important to the gallery which offers special programs for families, adults, teens, and children who can visit current exhibits and take part in interactive workshops. For instance, free Family Sundays occur once a month – phone for dates. The gallery also offers reasonably-priced Lunch B.A.G. Days that include lunch and a tour. Event Hosting
You can rent space at the Burnaby Art Gallery for special events – perhaps an intimate wedding reception in the Fireside Room following nuptials on the lawn. For larger gatherings, the main gallery is available after regular hours.
