Organic Coffee and Culture on The DriveBump ‘n’ Grind opened in 2008, and has become a popular local drop-in and hangout on funky Commercial Drive in Vancouver’s east end. With its vintage, retro and Sally Ann mix of chairs and tables, piles of books brought in by customers, and eclectic music on the PA system—global, reggae, rock, dance, pop, jazz and dance—the coffee shop has a feel-good atmosphere. A colourful mix of people work at their laptops, taking advantage of the free wireless, reading, studying or socializing. It’s not uncommon to find yourself striking up a casual conversation with fellow patrons.

Great Coffee, Friendly Service
Owners Audrey and Joe decided to open Bump ‘n’ Grind after Audrey volunteered at the Central coffee shop at The Burning Man cultural festival in Nevada. Joe was a teacher. Audrey had been working in offices for several years but had previous experience as a barista. Renowned local roasters 49th Parallel provide most of the tasty, organic, free trade coffee blends, with other special brands available on a rotating basis. Organic teas from Silk Road and Oohcha are also available. The cafe sells a selection of fresh muffins, fat free Spets cookies, sumptuous cookies from the Calabria bakery up the street, and other baked treats.

Art, Music and Books
Bump ‘n’ Grind curates art shows by individual artists once a month, and the pieces tend to sell quickly. Regular poetry slams occur the last Saturday of every month, and a live musician or DJ performs most Saturdays.
