A low-profile skate shop
Vancouver proper is known for its vibrant skateboarding culture, but the skate scene doesn't stop at the suburbs. Bruise Boards has served New Westminster since 2002, and just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it hasn't got the right stuff. Bruise Boards strives to be different from the typical mall-style skate shop, and shies away from advertising. But step inside and it's obvious that the store isn't lacking anything the mainstream shops have, and you might find an item you've never seen before..

Hard-to-find products
Bruise Boards carries a range of skateboarding equipment and clothing, from mainstream to independent brands. Skateboard decks come in a variety of styles, from classic to longboards, along with all the parts and accessories for the novice or the experienced skater. Brands available include DBK, Mystery, Hero, and Deathwish. Clothing and skate shoes are also available, with some brands not commonly available in Canada gracing the shelves, such as Upper Playground Clothing. Upper Playground produces clothing with original designs by underground artists for an unusual and deadly cool look

Underground art
Graffiti art and skateboarding have long been linked together, so it's not surprising that Bruise Boards caters to that market as well. Check out the supply of spraypaints and other supplies available for practitioners of one of the world’s “edgier” art forms. It's just another way Bruise Boards serves to support the alternative cultures in a city like Vancouver!
