Steaks are the main feature at this Vancouver institution. You can get a nine-ounce sirloin served with mushrooms, baked potato or rice, salad or soup for $8.95 — the same price as in the 1990s! There are several other specials for under $10, including the popular captain’s plate with prawns, scallops, oysters and sole. The restaurant only serves the best Albertan grain-fed, grade-A beef and uses local, organic produce whenever possible. Brave Bulls prepares a variety of cuts, sizes and flavours of steak, which can be accompanied by lobster tails, prawns or scallops. Vegetarians need not despair; there’s a selection of meal-sized salads and a variety of homemade soups, including the clam chowder.
Chinese Influence
Brave Bulls is run by Chinese restauranteurs, who are proud to offer some comfort food from their country. An assortment of combination dinners is on offer and includes mix and match traditional dishes like fried rice, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, almond chicken and egg foo yong. For just a taste from Asia, there are appetizers such as deep fried wontons, egg rolls and honey garlic spareribs. The wonton soup is also superb and can be ordered as a side to steak meals. The décor in the restaurant also has a Chinese influence, with impressive wall hangings, figurines and fans on display.
Cozy Destination on the East Side
Located on the corner of Clark Drive and East Hastings, Brave Bulls is an oasis in the industrial area and has become a destination for steak lovers. The restaurant is even known to attract celebrities and local sports stars. The atmosphere is cozy and you’ll feel like you’re dining at a friend's home surrounded by thriving plants, pieces of art, strings of Christmas lights and Chinese decorations that never come down and a friendly host. The space is separated into three distinct areas, with one having a more fancy feel thanks to white tablecloths and roses, and another offering a little more privacy on a raised level next to the windows.
