Each of BC’s 58 Boston Pizza locations offers two distinct dining experiences: a full-service, family-oriented restaurant and a separate sports bar. The menu is very extensive, offering a wide selection of gourmet pizza, of course, but also a lengthy pasta menu, tasty appetizers, meal-sized salads, entrées and a kids’ menu for pickier eaters. Some favourite pizza choices include the Boston royal, Popeye, BBQ chicken and the great white north. For the health conscious, there are now six menu items that meet the health check recommendations, meaning they are lower in fat, sodium and complex carbohydrates, such as the lime and parmesan shrimp skewers or the Thai chicken wrap.
Malt Shop Charm
Originating in Edmonton in 1964, Boston Pizza has grown from a small, family-run shop to one of the largest pizza franchises on the market today, with nearly 300 locations in Canada alone, each seating more than 200 customers with another 50-75 seats on the patio. But despite their growth, the original owners still adhere to their initial mantra: “Think like a customer, deliver outstanding food value and work closely with your partners.” It was this thinking that allowed Boston Pizza to develop hundreds of franchises with total annual revenues of nearly $650 million. Even with the expansions, no expense has been spared in providing the same 60s diner look and feel to each establishment, from the chequered floor to the quaint and cozy booths.
In the Community
As Canada’s #1 casual dining establishment, Boston Pizza has a high standard to uphold, which they do partly through their involvement in local charities as a way to give back to the communities that support them. In addition to supporting local sports teams and schools, the Boston Pizza Foundation supports such charities as Kids Help Phone, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and has raised more than $7 million in total. Now that’s a lot of dough!
