Book Warehouse was founded in 1980 by a group of west coast musicians and has since grown into a favourite local discount bookshop with eight locations in Metro Vancouver. The spacious stores are stocked with thousands of discount titles in all genres. The vibe is laid-back and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. This is not a second hand bookstore. Bargain-priced books—remainders, publishers’ overstocks, reprints, hurt (slightly damaged) books, samples, bankruptcy stock, and special imports—comprise more than half the inventory. However, Book Warehouse also stocks a healthy selection of new fiction and non-fiction releases, and current in-print paperbacks and hard covers. The good news is that Book Warehouse offers at least 20 per cent of the listed price for current hard and soft cover bestsellers, mass market and standard backlist titles.
A wide range of titles
Book Warehouse carries a good cross-section of literature, popular fiction, mysteries, history and art books, Canadiana, children’s titles, cookbooks, self-help titles, reference books, and more. You’ll also find a great selection of magazines and newspapers.
Ethical bookselling and community
Book Warehouse rarely returns unsold books to publishers. The store would rather give out a good deal by marking down the price. Over 80 per cent of Book Warehouse’s standard inventory comes from local suppliers. The in-store environment includes classical, jazz and global music on high quality sound systems. There are spaces to sit, read and have a coffee. Book Warehouse is involved with CBC Radio’s Studio One book club.
