Nestled among a string of fashion boutiques on trendy Main Street, Bodacious is a women’s clothing store that caters to curvy. The owners were inspired to open the boutique after having a hard time finding clothes that were well cut and fashionable in Vancouver. Bodacious started as a consignment store in 2000, but quickly evolved into a boutique. The store carries sizes 10 to 24 in everything from jeans to wedding wear. Known for its relaxed and friendly environment, with a focus on being “body positive,” shoppers will not find it difficult to purchase something Bodacious for their closets.
Local designers
The colourful racks and shelves at Bodacious boast a local lean, as much of the clothing is by Vancouver designers. The in-house label “Bodacious” has earned a reputation for its chic and flattering line of dresses, including its signature wrap dress that is updated each season. Popular designers featured in the boutique include Mitzylaneous Debris, clothing inspired by soft, touchable fabrics; Schaart Clothing, everyday clothing with a touch of elegance; Togs Designs, a brand that reflects a multitude of cultures through its unique pieces; and Lillikoi, sustainable, handmade clothing that flatters in flowing bamboo and organic cotton fabrics.
Pretty in pink
Bodacious is hard to miss with its funky pink, black and white décor and three spacious fitting rooms. Owners joke that over the years, the boutique has gone from “little girl’s bedroom to French contemporary boudoir.” The chic boutique has garnered acclaim from both local and international media. InStyle magazine and Oprah have featured the Bodacious-label jeans, plus Bodacious was voted one of the top three women’s clothing stores in the Lower Mainland in the annual Georgia Straight readers’ poll.
