In the upscale neighbourhood of Kerrisdale, cheap meals are few and far between. It comes as a bit of a pleasant surprise, then, that Bistro of Formosa is planted smack dab in the heart of the area and offers just that: Thai food at great prices. Probably not as well known as some of the other restaurants in the neighbourhood, this eatery is a favourite for the locals who frequent it often.
Taiwanese food
The focus at Bistro of Formosa is Taiwanese cuisine. You won’t find fancy dishes with rare ingredients, but nor will you find low standards. Each of the dishes is served with fresh ingredients and presented appealingly. The diner keeps prices below most restaurant levels, more along the lines of a cafeteria than fine dining. The food is offered in large portions and doggy bags are seen leaving the restaurant after almost every meal.
Casual atmosphere
Inside Bistro of Formosa, expect no pretence or elaborate design. The furnishings are basic and not highly stylish, but are certainly adequate enough. Tables are neatly positioned throughout the room, attaining a sense of privacy, and able to accommodate many during the rushes when the space gets quickly filled. Note that some of the servers do not speak perfect English, so pointing to dishes on the menu is sometimes helpful.
