Owner and chef John Kletas relies on 40 years of cooking experience to serve up only the tastiest food, and boasts a kitchen staff with a collective 200 years of culinary prowess. Bert’s has been capturing the attention of locals and tourists since 1948, and while it has come a long way from its days as a 24-hour coffee shop, it continues to provide the same personal, friendly service. The warm colours and array of hanging plants make the place cozy and inviting, while the kitschy collection of old bobblehead dolls from James Brown to Betty Boop adds a touch of fun.
Something for everyone
With different and very lengthy menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you’re sure to find something to suit every taste. While the beloved Greek dishes draw a loyal fan base, it’s their breakfast that seems to keep the tables filled. There are six breakfast specials available all day, while other selections, such as the rich seafood benny or the Zorba benny with feta and tomatoes, are available only in the morning. There’s also a special menu for little mouths and senior’s specials for lunch and dinner.
My Big Fat Greek Platter
Some of their most popular dishes are of the Greek persuasion and they’ve nailed everything from the calamari to the souvlaki, with special mention to the perfectly seasoned chicken on the Kota Skaras platter. They also serve pasta, sandwiches and salad as well as a slew of house specials. But if you ask any of the locals walking up and down Main Street where to go for the best cheeseburger on the strip, you’ll be sent directly to Bert’s. And if the burger triggers your inner carnivore, try one their 10 steak platters or seafood dishes such as the Filet of Sole, Deep-fried Prawns or Pacific Salmon Steak.
