Little Italy
One of New Westminster's oldest neighbourhoods contains a slice of the Old World. Bella Cakes and Pastries in Sapperton evokes the warmth of Italy, with tiled floors, brick walls, a statue of David, and of course, friendly service. The scent of fresh baked goods that greets you is intoxicating. Wooden shelves display rustic country breads, and glass cases are filled with tempting cakes, pastries, cookies, pies, scones, strudels and cheesecakes. Everything is baked daily on the premises, and any leftovers at the end of the day are donated to local charities.
Everyone loves cake
As the name suggests, Bella specializes in cakes and pastries. The many varieties of cakes include the St. Honore, a creampuff cake that's an Italian favourite with mocha drizzled with espresso syrup and topped with chocolate-covered coffee beans. The classic Strawberry Shortcake is a fan favourite, as well. For weddings, birthdays and special occasions, custom cakes can be ordered. To really wow guests, Bella can create art cakes based on an image or theme. These fantastically decorated and delicious creations are a Bella specialty. Ordering at least 24 to 48 hours in advance is recommended.

Bella Cakes and Pastries opened its doors in 2008, but the owners have four generations of baking in their family - with the time-honored family recipes to show for it. Even if you could have their recipe for the perfect cream puff, strawberry tart, chocolate cheescake or biscotti - which you can't - why would you want to when there's a bakery that makes it with so much love and pride? As the sign on Bella's counter says, enjoy!
