Bear Creek Park is a year-round recreation area for people of all ages. Each season brings its own special flavour to the activities of the park. The playground for kids is probably three times the size of a regular park playground, with an abundance of swings, slides, tunnels, nets, teeter-totters and amusing climbing configurations set in sand. For adults, the Surrey Arts Centre is housed on the grounds, which exhibits artwork and holds festivals and conferences in its theatre. The sports field and running track are open for both leisurely jogs and more competitive track meets.
Kids adore the miniature train that snakes through the wooded area of the park and departs from the Thomas the Tank Engine Station. The trip takes about eight minutes and departs regularly throughout the day. Seating space is roomy and accommodates many kids, and they can look out either side of the car at the park's wildlife. As the ride goes by quite fast, it’s not uncommon for kids to have another go ‘round. During the fall, the train is adorned with Halloween decorations and is open for rides for kids over eight years old during the nighttime, and Christmas brings festive lights and evening appearances by Santa.
The garden and pool
The Bear Creek Park Gardens begin at a wooden gate, where you cross a bridge that overlooks a salmon habitat stream. The grounds are spread out over five acres of land, with paved pathways and lovely flowers on display. The board at the entranceway tells visitors what’s going on during each season and where to explore specific horticulture. During the summer, the outdoor swimming pool opens to delight both children and adults. Be wary: it’s not meant for tots, as the shallow area starts at one metre. The popular spray park also kicks into action, where kids can run wildly about for hours on end.
Washrooms: Public washrooms at the train and pool change rooms (summer only)
Mini Golf Hours: 10 am to 4:30 pm, except for rainy days.
