Gourmet Cheese in East Vancouver
Au Petit Chavignol started to bloom in Strathcona neighbourhood in spring of 2009, gutting the 1920s building and updating it with renovations that keep the history of the building alive. The space is now a small, 36-seat restaurant with an intimate atmosphere.
Cheese and Fine Food
The menu at Au Petit Chavignol splits its cheeses into cow, sheep, goat and mixed varieties. Diners can choose from the list based on the types of cheese they prefer or ask the server to recommend items if they’re cheese newbie’s. Tasting platters for up to five people, fondue, and cheese and wine flights are all featured on the menu, as well as charcuterie choices. Then, pick an accompaniment or two to add to the dish. Entrees like mac and cheese, croque monsieur, croque madame and raclette add to the interesting choices.
Dessert, Wine and Personal Service
If you haven’t filled up too much on the main dishes, the dessert menu is a cause for indulging. A French classic like crème brulee and local favourite tarts are popular, or you can keep it simple with a dozen chocolate chip cookies. Wines range from German Rieslings and sparkling varieties to complex reds and refreshing whites. There is one beer on tap and a small choice of beers by the bottle.
