American Backpackers Hostel describes itself a funky hostel. Located in a charming old building that needs a little work, this is a destination for the undemanding bargain hunter. There are specific check-in times, but you can have a key for deposit and can come and go as you please 24-hours-a-day. The owner has a colourful background and can chat about it in several languages. It’s a popular place, so booking ahead is a good idea.
All the Comforts of Home
There are lots of common areas to meet new friends as well as a full kitchen, lockers, a patio and a fridge in every room. There’s a pool table in the game room along with a television, internet access, washer and dryer and car parking at a reasonable daily rate. There’s dorm, single and double accommodations and prices vary accordingly. Regardless, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal elsewhere. The downtown location makes it ideal for quick trips.

The staff know how to the city inside and out and they’re willing to help you out with free pick ups at the bus depot. You can depend on them for directions if you’re going out. And what’s more hospitable than a free beer on a Saturday night in the summer and free spaghetti in winter? Get sociable and meet your fellow travelers or kick back with a book or movie.
