Who said comfy clothing needs to be frumpy? Absolutely no one – realizing this, American Apparel has embarked on a mission to sex up the blah reputation of cotton basics. With the controversy generated over their racy advertising, it’s easy to forget that that’s what is actually being sold here – simple, casual attire for men, women, children, babies and even the family dog, all made from 100% cotton.
Casual Sex Appeal
American Apparel’s signature design strategy has been to keep the colours basic. There are no logos and no patterns - solid colours from across the spectrum dominate the retail floor. It’s the cuts that ooze the sex appeal - slimmed down styling with a European edge. A little daring, sure, but using the forgiving cotton fabric, American Apparel’s clothes still manage to look good on a wide range of body types. For those that think ethical consumerism is sexy, it’s good to know that American Apparel’s products are manufactured in unionized, North American factories.
