Operation: Seduction
Get ready to be seduced when you walk through Agent Provocateur’s doors on Alberni Street. The boutique feels more Victorian-era boudoir rather than a typical lingerie store. There’s no bright lights here, or piles of underwear thrown haphazardly on a table. The interiors are more sexy than romantic — think black lace, red satin and heavy velvet drapes. Delicate bird cages are scattered throughout the store, and several female mannequins in various poses show off the brand’s famously titillating lingerie to their best advantage. An antique four-posted bed, draped in lavish bedding, lies in wait on the second floor.

Naughty but Nice
Agent Provocateur is known for its risqué, saucy and fabulously sexy lingerie. If you’re on the lookout for the ultimate gift for Valentine’s Day, a romantic anniversary, or an outfit for a playful weekend getaway, check out the top-notch selection of designer bras, lacey knickers, corsets, stockings, hosiery, garters and gloves. Colours are classic, usually in black, red and white with occasional spurts of vivid fuchsia or purple. But the naughty details, including criss-cross satin ribbons, exquisite French lace, peek-a-boo embroidery, and unexpected fabrics like stretch PVC and leather, are what sets it apart from its humdrum competitors.

A Canadian First
Agent Provocateur is the brainchild of Joseph Corre, son of designer Vivienne Westwood, and Serene Rees. Founded in London in 1994, it has gained a cult following worldwide. The brand has stores across Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, the Middle East. Vancouver’s Agent Provocateur store, opened in late 2007, is the first retail store in the country.
