Blast From The Past
For the makers of ‘Adidas’, it must have been a dream-come-true when fashion did a U-turn and returned to the styles of the olden days. With a sudden increase in demand for the types of street-gear worn during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, all they had to do was dig into the archives, pull out already-existing designs and then reissue them under the label ‘Adidas Originals’.
Originals
Some of the designs you’ll find in the ‘Adidas’ Granville Street store have been reinterpreted and redeveloped, but most of the shoes and clothes on offer are completely original. Every piece is unique and has its roots in both the classic Adidas street style and its legendary sports heritage, such as Carlo Gruber’s iconic skiwear, some limited-edition reissues of the Superstar sneaker (worn by 75 percent of NBA players by 1975) and the Muhammed Ali line. In addition to clothes and shoes, they also stock a selection of must-have ‘Adidas’ accessories.
Hip Shop
As you might expect, the store’s interior design reflects the trendiness of the clothes it houses. At 2,896 square feet, it makes for a spacious, good-looking shopping space, and is decked out with low tables upon which the various pairs of retro shoes, clothes and accessories are displayed. Their minimalist approach to decoration, featuring only a selected number of Adidas artwork, lends the place a definite sense of ‘cool’ without feeling pretentious.
