The Aberdeen Centre was built in 1989 and was intended to create a modern yet truly Asian shopping experience. The builders wanted to create a shopping experience that redefines a shopping and entertainment experience. They managed to accomplish that by bringing elements of East and West into the vision and to enlarge the scope of the projects with plans to more than triple the current size by 2010. The Aberdeen Centre wants to create something unique for North America. At the same time, they intend to ensure it becomes Greater Vancouver’s pre-eminent shopping destination.
One Stop Shopping
The Aberdeen Centre was created to provide an alternative to Chinatown. The mall provides one stop shopping with Asian themed retail stores. You’ll discover herbal tea shops and restaurants. The Aberdeen Centre stores are as unique as the mall design itself. Three levels of shopping provide more than 100 stores to browse. A large food court has all the variety of choice for a quick snack and a chance to take a break.
Entertainment to Lift Your Spirits
Entertainment hasn’t been forgotten. There is a cinema, a bowling alley and continuous weekend entertainment. A Musical Fountain Show begins everyday at noon and is suspended during promotional events at the Central Atrium. Performances of various styles continue year round. There is a special emphasis leading up to Christmas music to provide a seasonal touch to the shopping experience. Past events have included talent shows, science demonstrations and a popular display of dinosaurs.
