ABC for You and Me
A Canadian-owned, family-friendly establishment since it opened its doors in Cranbrook in 1972, the ABC franchise has continued to uphold the same country vibe and old time feel that has made it a staple within the community. The ABC chain has built a name on old-fashioned hospitality served up in a setting that would rival the family cottage and flavourful meals that don’t skimp on flavour or fat. It’s a far cry from more modern health-conscious spots, but one that has its audience. With 30 locations now and new ones opening up across the province and even in Alberta, it’s clear there is still a demand for homemade meaty pies, gravy-laden pot roast and battered fish with never-ending potato wedges.

Good Food Country
Everything about each location – from the wrought-iron roosters to the red check curtains – screams grandma’s kitchen, and that’s exactly how vice-president and veteran operator John Harper likes it. He personally ensures that each location emits this same comfortable vibe, from the lighting to the design to the very architecture of the buildings themselves. This comfy-cozy feel – combined with the comfy-cozy food – appeals to young and old, from big family get-togethers to the lone wolves looking for a quick breakfast to start the day.

Old-fashioned Favourites
Breakfasts are made fresh to order, every day, with specials like the “Farmhand’s Favourite” — a mile-high pile of eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and hashbrowns, or the “Farmer’s Sausage Skillet”— chock-full of green onions, peppers, mushrooms, potatoes and eggs, smothered with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. The lunch menu is equally as extensive, with their famous pulled pork sandwiches leading the pack. Slow-roasted and tender, it comes with never-ending potato wedges and coleslaw. Burgers and sandwiches reign here, but every grandma knows the value of vegetables. Choose from salads like chicken Thai or the iron-rich spinach and berry. For dinner, there’s a broad selection of Grade-A Angus beef, hearty pasta, veal, roast turkey and stir-fry dishes. Treat your sweet tooth with one of the many dessert options. And like any good family restaurant, ABC Country offers seniors’ specials and a kids’ menu.
