Cuba’s Finest
The Vancouver Cigar Company opened its doors in 1996 and has been in its quaint Hamilton Street location since 1998, housing Canada’s largest collection of Cuban cigars. They sell 25 Cuban brands, including Cohiba, Partagas, La Gloria Cubana and many more. They also carry cigars from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Brazil and Nicaragua. Cigars can be bought and enjoyed in the rustic enclave, tastefully decorated in subdued browns and rich woods that one would expect in such an ultra-masculine environment.

Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire
The Cigar Company is one of the few places in Vancouver with a special license for allowing patrons to smoke inside. Their new ventilation system keeps the air breathable and virtually smoke-free. In addition to the extensive collection of fine cigars, they also carry a plethora of items for the discriminating aficionado, such as pipe tobacco, pipes, lighters, ashtrays and various smoking accessories, including state-of-the-art humidors that can run up to $13,500.

A Place to Gather
Small tables line the brick sidewalk in front of the store, which is guarded by a larger-than-life statue of a traditionally dressed Native American. At the back of the small store is the well-appointed smoking lounge, where the regulars congregate. Perched on rich brown leather chairs and couches they covet their Cubans, meticulously cutting and lighting them while flipping through magazines and sometimes even jamming on their acoustic guitars. The clientele is typically in their mid-30s and often come late at night, after restaurants have closed, to smoke a stogie and talk shop. Several membership lockers are located at the back, where members can store their cigars in a humidity-controlled environment.
