Best Patios/Terraces in Vancouver

A nice day in Vancouver means you’ll see the patios packed from early in the day until late at night. Vancouver Plus.ca presents our top 10 best bets for a sun-baked afternoon outside.

Bridges Seafood
With a large, sunny patio jutting straight out into Vancouver’s harbour, there are few better places than Bridges to unwind with a cold beverage as watch your worries be carried away with the tide.

Joe Fortes Seafood & Chophouse
With a landscaped rooftop patio, a fireplace and horseshoe-shaped bar that’s open year-round, Joe Fortes is an oasis of cool in Vancouver’s busy downtown. Order up a plate of their famous oysters and drink in the ambience.

The Boathouse Restaurant
An address on Beach Avenue in English Bay is a good first step towards an excellent patio. The second is an establishment that cares enough to have created an outdoor menu full of lighter fare choices that are perfect for snacking on in the sunshine.

Watermark
On the beachfront in Vancouver’s coveted Kitsilano area, the Watermark has existed in one form or another for more than a century, and continues to be ahead of the times. The updated building has geo-thermal heating and cooling, solar shading, and natural ventilation, as well as a huge patio with drop-dead views of the harbour.

Backstage Lounge
For casual dining on the riverfront in False Creek, the Backstage Lounge is relaxed and inviting, serving a younger crowd a well-received menu of pub grub faves with a modern twist.

Flying Beaver Bar
There are two reasons why the Flying Beaver rules – seals and otters. Located near the Vancouver Airport on the Fraser River, along with wildlife you can also watch float planes landing and taking off from your seat on this popular patio.

Havana
The Havana is super-friendly, and the eclectic crowd on Commercial Drive means that people-watching opportunities just don’t get any better than this. The food is reputed to top that of Cuba’s capital city, and you can even bring your dog along! This patio is where the hip get happenin’ in East Van.

Il Giardino
The patio at Il Giardino is a paradise of fragrant flowers and scene-setting greenery. You’ll feel like you’ve just stepped into a family-owned cantina along the Amalfi Coast.

Brix Restaurant
This beautiful heritage building has a courtyard patio unlike any other in the city. A glass ceiling floats far above, making this a covered enclave that may just be the city’s best-kept secret.

Seasons in the Park Restaurant
From anywhere in Queen Elizabeth Park, just look up and you’ll find Seasons in the Park. This is the highest point in the city, and thus Seasons offers amazing views of the park, city lights and Coast Mountains, plus plenty of celebrity-spotting opportunities, too!
